The national aerospace university - KhAI is a unique higher educational institution where the airplanes developed by the Institute's Design Bureau under the supervision of Professor I.G. Nerman were produced serially at aircraft plants and run on passenger airlines. In 1978 the KhAI was given the name by N.Ya.Zhukovskiy. In 1980 the Institute was awarded the highest USSR award Order of Lenin, In 1998 the State Aerospace University Kharkiv Aviation Institute was founded on the basis of the KhAI. In 2000 it got both a status of the National higher educational institution and a new title of the National Aerospace University Kharkiv Avaiation Institute. During the period of its existence the University has trained about 60,000 engineers. More than 80 % of the specialists with higher education who work in the Ukrainian aerospace area are the graduates of the KhAi.

Climate in kharkiv or Kharkov :
Kharkivs climate is humid continental , with cold and snowy winters, and hot summers. The seasonal average temperatures are not too cold in winter, not too hot in summer: 4.6 degree Celsius in January, and +21.3 degree Celsius in July. The average rainfall totals 513 mm (20 in) per year, with the most in June and July.
