Study in France: Why It Can Be a Good Option for Indian Students
BY RASHIKA | Last Updated: 24 September 2026
France continues to be an important destination for international students, including students from India. The country offers public universities, grandes écoles and specialist institutions across business, engineering, technology, arts and other fields.
One of the important changes students should understand is that costs and visa requirements are not the same for every institution. Public institutions may have regulated registration fees, while private institutions and many business schools can have substantially different tuition fees.
Tuition Fees in France
For 2026/2027, Campus France states that the differentiated registration fee for non-EU students at public higher education institutions under the relevant national framework is €3,950 per year for a Master's degree. Some students and programmes can be exempt from differentiated fees, and private institutions set their own fees. Always check the fee for the specific programme before making a decision.
Internships and Part-Time Work
Internships are an important part of many French programmes, but the rules depend on the course and the internship arrangement. International students with the appropriate student status can also work during their studies. Campus France states that foreign students are generally permitted to work up to 964 hours per year, equivalent to about 20 hours per week on average.
Student Visa and Financial Planning
For students applying for a French student visa, the financial requirement has recently changed. From 1 August 2026, Campus France India states that the minimum proof of financial resources is €877.50 per month, replacing the previous €615 threshold. Students should prepare their financial documents according to the amount and evidence required at the time of application.
What About Accommodation?
Students should budget separately for accommodation, food, transport, insurance and other living costs. Some students may be eligible for housing support depending on their circumstances, but this should not be treated as guaranteed funding when preparing a study budget.
